For Inner Wheel Clubs in Beds, Herts & Bucks

Sadly meeting in person together in our usual venue wasn’t to be this year but this didn’t stop members of D26, together with our very special friends from D9, D13, D24 and our Guest Speaker, from enjoying the friendship and fellowship at a very organised and interesting meeting.

The meeting included an enlightening presentation and a raffle, the proceeds of which will go to support the charity Women and Girls.

D26 Chairman Brenda cheerfully welcomed everyone and was followed by the Association International Committee Chairman Shamim lighting the Friendship Candle.

The Guest Speaker David Crosweller from Women And Girls had spent 22 years working overseas, working in India for most of the time constructing and building toilets in schools; 40% of schools in India we were informed lack toilets. Through a lack of good sanitary protection many girls drop out of school and this worthwhile work offers girls the freedom to continue with their education with dignity.

For the poorest families sanitary protection is a ‘luxury’ they just can’t afford. The Charity provides Saakfins and Safepads, which are produced in India, so helping to support the local economy, and both are anti-bacterial, reusable, recyclable, safe and hygienic, cheap and affordable, (shown left).

His passion for the project was inspiring and in conclusion he enlightened us on another passion of his - separation toilets which treat human waste by a biological process called composting and its many benefits.  This prompted comments from delegates that they are common on allotments and sites without mains services here in the UK.  A vote of thanks followed.

A very happy, successful, interesting meeting was enjoyed by all
